I’m really excited about this entry. You see, there are two things I really love and enjoy – cloth diapering and handcrafted things.
Cloth diapering is fun, environmentally friendly, and cute. Kids make the perfect models for the cutest prints…but so do wetbags! I love wetbags. I collect wetbags, okay?
My favorite one was made by Michelle of SMJAE and has Heather Ross’s “Goldfish in Bags” print. My mom’s dryer ate it up when I was in Houston but before that, I carried it everywhere. I had planned on using it as a mama cloth bag when Noah was potty trained so needless to say, I was heartbroken when it got chewed up and spit back out by the Dryer of Doom!
Michelle was wonderful though and offered to make me a replacement. I was so sure I wouldn’t be able to get that print again that I was overjoyed to hear she could do that for me. Her wetbags are truly Quality; deserving of a capital Q. They have never wicked for me, the sewing is sublime and her collection of fabrics are adorable.
On top of that, her customer service is incredible. She’s always been quick to respond to my emails, very sweet and keeps the lines of communication open from start to finish. She obviously takes pride in her work, which makes me take pride in being her customer. I absolutely recommend her to anyone and I have left raves on many diapering sites, like the Diaperpin. (That’s what I do when I’m a happy customer.)
Now, she’s been so generous as to sponsor a giveaway for my blog (and blog readers). If you’re not a cloth diapering parent or your kids are potty trained, don’t go away! This may still apply to you.
The Giveaway: A custom slot for a 10″ x 12″ wetbag. That is perfect for mama cloth or diaper bag size (or both, if you’re like me)!
Don’t want to wait? Look through Michelle’s stocked wetbags or purchase your very own custom slot at her store, Sewing Mom Just Accessories Etc. She also sells cloth wipes, mama pads and diaper inserts, so check it out!
How to enter: It’s really easy – just leave a comment telling me either 1) what your favorite “thing” to buy handmade is or 2) one step you take to better the earth (ie: cloth diapering, recycling, etc). Your comment must be posted by 11:59 PM EST on Earth Day – April 22nd, 2009. I will use a randomizer to choose the winner on the 23rd and we’ll go from there. Make sure to use a valid email address as the winner will have 48 hours to respond before I move on.
Get an extra entry: You can get one chance to win for each of the following…

April 17, 2009
I love to buy homemade clothes for my girls and homemade dress-ups for my little boy. I am also an avid cloth diaperer and love to recycle.
April 17, 2009
My favorite thing to buy handmade would be toys. One thing we do to help the environment is that we use as much cloth as possible. Not only do we use cloth diapers but we also use cloth wipes and my twelve year old and I both use cloth pads. She even recommends it to all of her friends, and they think it’s neat that her pads have things like flames on them.
April 17, 2009
I help the earth by recycling & by using cloth diapers & wipes & cloth nursing pads. I would like to see more options for not having so much plastic packaging on items, that seems to be the bulk of our recycling.
April 17, 2009
1)I love buying homemade to support people that get to use their talent/skill/craft/love.. being a photographer i know the feeling when someone likes me work and i like to pass that along.
2) I cloth diaper my son. I’ve just starting using cloth pads (and am LOVING it..) Starting cleaning w/ vinegar and baking soda, not chemicals. Trying (slowly) to break the paper towel habit.

3) Before my daughter was born, my DH and I decided to try out cloth diapering. After getting really into it once she was born, I invested in mama cloth, a diva cup, and cloth wipes for regular use. We compost leftovers for our garden, grow our own vegetables/herbs, recycle, and family shower. We also drive one vehicle around, but really enjoy walking/biking!

This is awesome, thank you! My favorite handmade thing to buy lately is hand knit or crocheted longies. It’s something I haven’t learned how to do yet, and I just love how cute they are. As far as improving the earth, I’ve been recycling for years. But lately, I’ve really tried to be more concientious of reusing things, not just throwing them in the recycling bin. Thank you!

What I do for the earth is I use cloth mama pads, cloth grocery bags, I try to buy local produce, and I just bought a cute handmade lunch set for work that has a lunch bag, a snack bag, a sandwich wrap and a cloth napkin. I also take a bpa free water bottle to work instead of using disposable bottles (saves money too!). Oh, and I have convinced my mother to stop using plastic in the microwave, so I am spreading the environment friendly love!
Is that enough? Sorry I rambled, but I love this topic, lol.
